Fitting types

Types of outdoor security lighting we install

The right security lighting depends on your property layout and the areas you want to illuminate. We install a range of outdoor security lights to improve visibility around entrances, driveways, side access routes and gardens.
Positioning Guide

Common Areas for Outdoor Security Lighting

Correct positioning is just as important as the fitting itself. A well-planned lighting scheme helps improve coverage without creating unnecessary glare or dark spots.

Front Door & Porch

Primary entrance must be well lit. PIR wall light or twin-head floodlight for deterrence and CCTV support.

Driveway & Garage

Most common approach for vehicle theft. Floodlights covering the full driveway length for detached properties.

Side gate and return

The least-observed access route to the rear. Often the single most cost-effective security lighting addition.

Outbuildings

Garages, workshops and garden rooms often benefit from additional lighting to improve visibility and access.

Vulnerable Areas

Lighting can be positioned to improve visibility around specific areas of the property where additional illumination is desired.
Commissioning

Getting the Most from Your Security Lighting

Correct positioning and setup are essential for reliable security lighting. We configure and test every PIR security light to help ensure effective coverage around the property.
PIR Setting What It Controls Consequence if Incorrectly Set
Detection Angle The horizontal area monitored by the sensor (typically 120°–270°). Too wide: triggers from passing vehicles or neighbouring properties. Too narrow: genuine approaches may not be detected.
Sensitivity The level of heat change required to activate the sensor. Too high: activates from foxes, cats or moving foliage. Too low: may not detect a slow-moving person in colder conditions.
Time-On How long the light remains illuminated after activation (from seconds to around 15 minutes). Too short: the light switches off while someone is still present. Too long: unnecessary illumination may disturb occupants during the night.
